What is a running assessment?
Through video analysis, we analyse your running technique throughout the different phases of running. From this we can provide a
detailed assessment that is used to highlight any biomechanical defects that may increase your risk of injury or be the cause of any
Initially a discussion is had where you will go through your current goals and difficulties with running. We will also discuss your current
training program if you have one, the surfaces you run on throughout the week as well as the shoes you wear.
A running specific strength assessment is performed to highlight any potential weaknesses as well as screen any problem areas mentioned
in the initial discussion.
The main aspect of this session is the running analysis, which is done on the treadmill in the clinic. Video analysis will be taken from
different angles at a variety of running paces which will depend on the type of sessions the runner undertakes throughout the week.
- The podiatrist will then go through the findings with you and explain what was found in the analysis.
- If required, another video is captured to highlight potential improvements.
Your primary goal will determine how you benefit from this session. This could include running without pain, reaching fitness testing goals,
beginning a running program safely, increasing your weekly mileage or getting a personal best.
Once we work out your goals, we can provide a tailored experience to ensure:
You receive education regarding how you may need to improve your technique in various ways to become more efficient as well as decrease any
current pain or the risk of injury.
We identify any biomechanics and body positioning that correlates to an increased risk of certain injuries or pain.
- You receive technique and footwear advice as well as advice on what training style would suit you.
- You receive a professional exercise prescription based on your results from the assessment.
Do I have to be a professional runner to get a running assessment?
The running assessment is not limited to professional runners. Our running assessment is individually tailored depending on the skill level
of the runner. We also encourage those who are looking to get into running safely or even if running is part of your current sport, we
will be able to help.
